Winter came. Finally.

The temperature dropped downn by 14-19 degrees centigrates in the last 3 days.  This is almost the season averages.  It is raining cats and dogs even in some certain areas we had the first snow.  This means for the locals of Istanbul lots of traffic and other side effects, as problems for sure.  It was always a dilemna for me why we had that many of accidents and that much of traffic even right after the slightest rain
or snow.  Yesterday was such a day for Istanbul.  A full traffic jam, I really mean it.  It took me to 2 and a half hours for a trip normally takes 1 hour only.  In certain routes it was even impossible to arrive.  Trips with no ends.

For the locals it may be a little nightmare but for the visitors it will be a great experience it it snows.  The mousqes, the golden horn and old houses looks really pretty under snow.  The recommend towns may be Bebek, Emirgan, Uskudar, Sultanahmet and Samatya.  The historical parts can be very photogenic.

As I always recommend the best way to see and taste Istanbul is on foot.  You must walk and stop in every interesting spot that you may face almost each and every corner.  If it snows then it becomes a must that you walk or use public transportation like boats and metro otherwise you suffer like regular locals.  It is critical to program your day on the routes of boats and metro only because tghe public buses will face the same end anyway.

I want to remind a few things onece again.  Wear tight, leave your pass and extra money in the hotel safe, do not carry big funny bags or shoulder bags, do not show your travel books or maps and walk.  You will be fine.

To plan your routes the take these important spots in your notes.  Kabatas - Sultanahmet Metro,  Taksim - Kabatas Finikuler and Uskudar - Eminonu boat.  If you stick with these routes there is no way that you get lost.  Enjoy your stay.
